Party Decor
Valentine’s Day decorations are easy to find in party stores as well as online. The easy thing to remember is the color scheme! Valentine’s Day traditionally uses the colors red, white, pink and purple.
For decorative ideas, consider balloons in the shape of Hershey Kisses, or “I Love You” balloons. You can even create a multicolored balloon arch using strong bendable wire. Simply tie the balloons (with string or wire ties) onto the arch starting from the top and working down both sides for an even, consistent look. Alternatively, you might fill red, white and pink helium balloons and hang streamers from them with heart-shaped cardstock cut-outs tied to the bottoms. You can decorate the walls and doors with large red paper roses and hearts. Spread out a floral tablecloth and sprinkle conversation hearts and confetti on the table. Fill glasses with red beads. Make handmade valentine’s cards for each guest to use as a place card.
For a centerpiece there are unlimited possibilities. Make sure to keep with your party theme. Floating candles add an elegant touch and a nice glow. To get your guest’s attention, make your centerpiece a heart-shaped cake! Another idea: tie two plush teddy bears back-to-back, each holding “I Love You” hearts, and finish by tying on balloons.
Food & Favors
If you’re ambitious enough to cook delicacies for your guests, consider a delicious chocolate souffle or cookies in the shape of hearts, cupids and flowers. There are many Valentine’s Day recipes at cookie-recipes.net, including cookie-cutter brownies and Valentine sugar cookies.
You can also offer chocolates, fruit snacks, or Little Debbie snack cakes. For favor ideas, there are Hugs & Kisses, long-stemmed silk red roses, bubbles, foil wrapped chocolate hearts, strawberry or chocolate scented candles and sweetheart candy.
Games & Children’s Activities
Some games for children might include valentine-themed coloring books. There are a number of websites that offer printable coloring pictures that you can download. One is Kids Domain, which has a nice selection of Valentine images for coloring, available in a large printable size or card size.
Another fun activity for kids is making a Valentine’s Day themed tablecloth. Get a white fabric tablecloth (unprimed canvas cut to the right size works perfectly, too) as well as some flat sponges that can be cut into different shapes. Other things you will need: scissors, fabric paint (in Valentine colors) and markers. Have the kids draw hearts and other simple shapes on their sponges with a marker, then cut out the shape with scissors. They can then dip one side of their sponge lightly into the paint and then onto the tablecloth. Encourage them to use different size sponges as well as different colors. You can also give them glitter paint pens to add decorative designs to the tablecloth.
