Famous Fourth of July Fireworks

Fireworks and the Fourth of July; as synonymous as America and apple pie. And you can bet that no matter where you might be in the good ole US of A on July 4th, you won’t be far from a grand fireworks display.

Fireworks are a familiar event on July 4th since they so elaborately highlight the celebration of our freedom. John Adams, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, wrote in a letter to his wife, "I believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival... it ought to be celebrated by pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other..."

And so it has, from small towns to big cities, fireworks illuminate the evening skies on the Fourth of July. For those of you who might be traveling over the Fourth, here are some places that hold particularly spectacular July 4th fireworks displays.

Philadelphia, PA

In the City of Brotherly Love, you can attend a concert performance of the Philadelphia Pops and view a breathtaking display of fireworks that frame the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

New York, NY

As with everything, New York City celebrates the Fourth in a very big way. Macy’s sponsors fireworks and releases them from three different locations around the city, so viewing options abound. In addition, this year there will be a patriotic flyover courtesy of the U.S. Air Force.

Boston, MA

Distinguished as “America’s biggest Independence Day party,” Boston’s July 4th celebration takes place annually at the Esplanade. It features a concert by the Boston Pops immediately followed by a spectacular fireworks display over the Charles River.

Washington D.C.

In our nation’s capital, you can view one of the largest fireworks displays at the National Mall. After a performance by the National Symphony Orchestra, delight in a fireworks show with a backdrop of the Washington Monument.

Orlando, FL

Expect extravagant fireworks displays and celebrations at Universal Orlando, Walt Disney World, SeaWorld, and more.
