Winter wonderland…what images do those words conjure up for you?
Maybe a frozen pond dotted with bundled-up ice skaters as snowmen stand watch on the snow covered banks. Children laugh and giggle as they make snow angels and their voices resonate clearly over the fresh layer of powder. A clear blue sky, crystal ice, and bright, white snow create a blinding landscape to contrast with people dressed in colorful hats and scarves as they scurry about in the sharp, brisk air.
Rising up from the vast whiteness are lofty evergreens abundant with pine cones. Bright red winterberries add a startling burst of color.
All of these images and more can be part of your winter wonderland wedding theme.
Decorate with white, blue, and silver to mimic the brilliant snow, cloudless skies, and frozen ice. The groom could wear a white tux or suit and the bride a stunning white gown of satin. A bouquet of simple white flowers would complete the look.
Wedding centerpieces could consist of miniature sleds holding a small spray of greens and winterberry or cranberries. Wedding favors might be an old-fashioned, knit mitten filled with candy and tied off with a satin ribbon. If your wedding is during the Christmas season, a glass ornament would be delightful as a favor. Closer to Valentine’s – a small box of decadent dark chocolate.
Invitations resembling a snowflake could be written in silver or gold ink. Food should include something warm, traditional, and comforting like a butternut squash dish or a pumpkin soup. Hot cocoa or mulled cider could also be offered to guests.
Your winter wonderland-themed wedding can be as dramatic or simple as you want it to be. Chances are if you chose the winter to wed, you’re already aware of the incredible beauty of the season. Remember that beauty as you plan for your big day.
