Easter is a delightful holiday since its arrival always follows closely on the heels of Spring; particularly this year - they’re only days apart.
Because Easter gives us reason to celebrate, why not plan activities that the whole family can enjoy, from kids to adults.
Easter wouldn’t be complete if you didn’t decorate eggs. Try sponge painting eggs for a fun project your kids will love. All you need are hard-boiled eggs (of course), acrylic paints, a household sponge, paper towel, a paper plate, small bowl of water, and something to hold your eggs in such as an empty egg carton.
Wet the sponge and then wring out the water. Cut the sponge into pieces and round off any edges. Cut as many pieces as you have colors of paint. Put dabs of each paint color on the paper plate, then, take a piece of sponge and dip into one of the paint dabs. Wipe off any excess paint on the paper towel and while holding an egg in one hand, paint it with the sponge, using random strokes to create different patterns. When finished, place the egg in the egg carton to dry.
Don’t forget the traditional Easter egg hunt. Depending on the age of your children, you can make this event simple or challenging. Some ideas for organizing a hunt include color-coding eggs according to the kids’ ages. Another clever tip is to paint or write a letter on each hidden egg. Tell the hunters to try and spell words from the eggs they find. Whoever spells the most words wins. Set boundaries if your hunt takes place outdoors so the kids know the area in which to look.
But Easter activities aren’t just for the wee folk, grown ups can have fun too. Celebrate Easter and spring together by creating your own centerpiece to decorate your Easter dinner table.
A cute centerpiece is a candle holder egg tree. Use any candle holder such as a candelabra, brass candlesticks, or small votives and place pretty decorated eggs on them. Use tacky wax to keep the eggs in place if necessary.
If you have vintage teacups put thoroughly soaked floral foam inside each. Place small blooms such as lily-of-the-valley or grape hyacinths inside for lovely, petite flower arrangements.
Create an Easter Bonnet table centerpiece by placing softly colored eggs inside a straw hat. Use hollowed eggs and put ribbons or paper inside to hold names for place settings or clues for finding hidden Easter eggs.
These are just a few suggestions to help you celebrate Easter and usher in spring.
