If you’re planning on having a beach wedding, congratulations! The beach is one of the most romantic locales you could choose.
But the logistics of arranging a beach wedding can be trickier than you might think. Never fear. With careful thought and advance planning, you can easily create the beach wedding of your dreams.
Beach wedding planning is similar to traditional wedding planning. The one big variable you have to contend with is your ceremony’s location – the beach. This means you have to deal with finicky Mother Nature. And because there’s no guarantee that your wedding day will be sunny and dry, plan accordingly. Consider renting a tent for use in case of bad weather, or, if the beach is part of a resort or hotel, have a backup plan to hold your ceremony indoors should it rain on your parade.
How many guests will you be inviting? If your wedding will be small and intimate, guests would probably be comfortable standing, especially if the ceremony is short. But if you plan on having a large amount of people and an elaborate ceremony, you’ll need to make arrangements for seating. Also, keep in mind that a larger guest list means you’ll need a larger area for your ceremony. Does the beach you’re considering have the necessary space to accommodate your needs?
Beach weddings can be either formal or informal; it’s all up to you. The more formal your ceremony is, as with any wedding, the more planning involved. But again, remember your location. High heels and sand don’t mix well and wind, salt, and humidity can wreak havoc on a sophisticated hairstyle. At an informal affair, guests can gather around you barefoot in the sand. For a formal event, you’ll probably want to consider renting flooring for easier walking and seating arrangements.
What time do you plan to wed? For beach weddings, early morning or dusk are ideal times since you miss the heat of the day and the crowds. Whichever time you choose, however, be sure to discuss with your photographer any lighting issues that might arise for your photos.
Don’t forget about tides! Find out the tide schedule prior to your ceremony. Creeping back up the beach while you’re saying your vows or finding your ceremony spot under a tidal pool doesn’t make for the best memories. Choose a time when the tide is out.
Depending on how you plan your wedding, you may have to think about renting facilities for your guests, especially if you’re reception takes place on the beach, too. There are companies that rent temporary facilities suitable for a more formal affair; something that your guests would find preferable to a public restroom.
A beach wedding might require a tad more planning, but if your heart is set on it and you prepare well in advance, you’re sure to have a glorious wedding day!
