This is an invitation I created for LCI's newsletter, the Creative Invitation Guide. Josh asked me to make a brand new invitation using our wide selection of specialty papers, and this is one design that I came up with. While browsing the many colors and textures of paper in the warehouse, I noticed that Gmund's midnight blue paper called Pelagus looked appealing next to the Silver Bubbles chiyogami paper. Silver Bubbles is a lightweight black paper with a pattern of silver metallic spots, and next to the Pelagus it took on the appearance of falling snow on a winter night. I thought the silver and dark blue colors looked intriguing.
With a single 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of Silver Bubbles chiyogami, I lined a Pelagus envelope and made a layer to go onto a Pelagus backing card. I trimmed the chiyogami invitation layer to allow about 3/8 of an inch of the backing card to show on the sides. Then I printed invitation wording in bold, black text on a vellum overlay and adhered it to the card with a Silver Spiral Clip. The translucent layer makes this invitation interesting because it allows the chiyogami pattern to show through without making it too difficult to read the text.
At a glance you can see a number of textures, including the embossing on the Pelagus card and the shimmering metallic paint on the chiyogami paper. The colors and patterns make this card appropriate for any winter event, whether formal or informal. If you're interested in purchasing the papers to make this invitation at home, use the links below to find the items on the LCI website. And don't forget to browse the variety of other chiyogami patterns and papers; there may be an even better combination for your event. Be creative!
